CMS to cover FDG-PET scan for cervical cancer initial staging

The CMS on Wednesday gave final approval for the coverage of one FDG-PET scan for the initial staging of biopsy-confirmed cervical cancer. The decision partially was based on data submitted by the National Oncologic PET Registry that showed FDG-PET scan during initial assessment of cervical cancer patients changed treatment plans in 36.1% of cases.
